About this opportunity
The IMF Economist Program (EP) is the Fund's main entry route for talented new economists. Participants work on country and policy assignments at IMF headquarters in Washington, DC, starting in September 2027.
Eligibility
- A recent PhD in macroeconomics or a related field, or within one year of completing it
- A solid understanding of macroeconomics and the ability to explain complex economic linkages clearly
- Under 34 years old when the programme begins in September 2027
- Citizen of an IMF member country. Pakistan is a member.
- Excellent written and spoken English; strong analytical, quantitative and computer skills

Apply online through the IMF careers site (link on this page). The programme follows an annual cycle: applications open in late September, followed by assessments and interviews. IMF staff in Washington hold G-4 visas for employees of international organisations.
